In the chalky hills of southern Burgundy, in the Mâconnais, “the best Saint Vérans are far superior to the majority of Pouilly Fuissés” (Robert Parker). This fine white is from the exceptional House of Albert Bichot, a négociant that produces outstanding wines from a range of small estates and from individual growers. This is their village Saint Véran and coming from the Mâconnais, it provides both exemplary quality and value. Not always the case in Burgundy. The vineyards lie on slopes surrounding Pouilly Fuissé, with Beaujolais to the very south, on soils of marl, limestone and clay. All fermented in tank, bar 20% in barrel, this is a beautifully balanced white, with delicate aromas of acacia and fern flattering the ripe orchard fruit.
