Founded in 1894 by the Scholz family, Elderton is now one of the most respected names in the Barossa Valley. It was bought by the Ashmeads, Lorraine and Neil, in 1979. They needed a new family home after they'd been working in Saudi. It was a time when wine sales were negligible, so the estate agent threw in the 72 hectares of vines for free with the house! Since then they've restored it all and gained a reputation for true excellence and won accolades galore. Each year, the estate's finest Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot from a single vineyard are blended according to the strengths of the varieties that vintage, then aged two years in French oak barrels. The result is a silky, powerhouse red that ages magnificently. Best decanted.
