The Barbaneras have been making superlative wines in some of Chianti’s top spots since the 1930s. The silky, savoury Duca di Cardino Riserva reflects this impressive pedigree in the harmonious balance of its cherry rich fruit and oaky complexity.

This fine Riserva comes from Chianti’s southerly vineyards, close to Montalcino (famous for Brunello), which have lent it a particularly rich, full and smooth style. It was made by the Barbanera winery, founded in 1938 and still family run today. A recent overhaul of the cellar has further elevated the high quality of the wines. The name of this red pays homage to a family ancestor, Orazio Barbanera, who defeated the Florentines in a skirmish in a field of artichokes, earning him the title Duca di Cardino (Duke of Artichokes). This stylish, mature tribute to the Duke blends Sangiovese with local stars Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo for a full dark cherry and chocolate character. Serve with antipasti, roast meats, veal escalope or Tuscan bean stew.

"Really tasty, smooth and clean, slight plum taste followed by fruitiness but not sweet" Online Review for 2008
