Chat with Vinny
Quinta Senhora da Ribeira forms a significant part of Dow’s vintage ports, but here’s a chance to enjoy it as a single quinta. 2015 was a 5-Star vintage. Sarah Ahmed writes: “This vintage will outlive the 1955, 1970 perhaps even the 1945 ports.”
Tasting notes
Brooding richness of fruit underpinned by a fresh mineral quality
Aroma
Rich, buttery and floral. Expressive. Elegant
Quinta Senhora da Ribeira is set in the remote Douro Superior with spectacular views over the river. Opposite is another famous estate owned by the Symingtons, Quinta do Vesuvio. Senhora is called after a chapel, the name of which translates as ‘Lady of the River’. Its wines are some of the finest in the Douro and contribute to Dow’s classic vintage ports. In this single quinta vintage you taste the wine on its own, in all its glory. Around half the vines are more than 25 years old and yield a mere 1 kilogram of grapes each, hence the wine’s amazing concentration and its 93 points from Parker and Suckling. The wine is produced traditionally, the grapes trodden by foot in granite lagares. Wonderfully aromatic, balanced and built to last.
