Don’t Tell Gary Shiraz 2019 Presell

Glorious dark Shiraz, aged in new French oak, from Victoria’s high Grampians and the McPherson team

DTG, as they call it, all started in 2014 when winemaker Jo Nash discovered a 20 year old single vineyard in Victoria’s remote Grampians. The region is renowned for wines with elegance, power, beauty and great purity of fruit. Just taste this one. She crushed the grapes, fermented with wild yeasts in open-top fermenters, plunging twice daily, and tucked the wine away in “ridiculously expensive new French oak barrels for 12 months” (Jo). Minimal intervention was the aim. Jo then conveniently forgot to tell Gary the accountant! It was worth all the secrecy – it’s now won Golds galore, and is a gorgeous melée of black cherry, blueberry and mixed spice with a lavish layer of well integrated oak. Enjoy with relish – just don’t tell Gary!
