This is an absolute treat of a wine for lovers of fine Riesling. It comes from a winemaker considered one of the best in Germany – Helmutt Dönnhoff – using grapes grown in the top-ranked site in Germany's Nahe region. On top of that, it was awarded a stonking points 96 points from expert wine critic James Suckling. Here's just a snippet of what James Suckling said in his glowing review: “on the palate it’s like a huge glittering diamond with facets flashing many colours … a masterpiece of elegance“Helmutt Dönnhoff belongs to an exclusive group of elite German winemakers allowed to bear the “GG” mark on their wines, which clearly signposts the best wines in all GermanyMade in the Spätlese style, where grapes are harvested late for extra sugar ripeness, meaning there are soft hints of well-integrated sweetness on the palate. Aromas of white peach, quince and lime mingle with complex notes of wet stone and almond, all set against floral overtones that billow from the glass. The palate is rich and dense, with subtle creaminess and honeyed sweetness. Drinking wonderfully right now, but will full develop of the next decade.
