More information
This fine estate was founded in 1810 by Nicolas Schlumberger, who planted vineyards on the slopes above the village of Guebwiller. Ever respectful of the past and mindful of those to come, the 6th and 7th generations now run the estate. Through these successive generations, Schlumberger has grown to be one of France's finest properties. It has extensive holdings – 180 hectares of vines, with an 80% share in three of Alsace's greatest Grand Cru sites – Kessler, Kitterlé and Saering. In recent years, they have converted to organic viticulture, with an eye to biodynamic practices too. Kessler Grand Cru is a well protected, steep, sunny slope, with pink sandstone soils. From a fine vintage, the wine is luscious, exotic, mouthfilling and fleshy.
