Young Pierre Rostaing, now in charge of winemaking at the estate, is "making some of the best wines of Côte-Rôtie” (Wine Advocate). His father René started in 1971 with less than half a hectare, split between the Côte Blonde and La Landonne. He inherited another 5.5 hectares from his father in law and uncle, and now, with Pierre's assistance, makes some of the appellation’s finest wines. The two agree on making their wines taste of true Côte Rôtie terroir, and eschew the riper, easy styles. This 2017 shows clearly "Ampodium is reaching new heights" (Wine Advocate). It is firm, layered and muscular. Approachable now if decanted well beforehand, this wine will improve enormously with age. Exquisite with lamb shanks or baked aubergine.
