Chat with Vinny
A luscious Rhône red from a 5-Star family domaine. It’s biodynamic too, which shows how much care they invest. From Vacqueyras, an appellation that makes “excellent stunt doubles” (WSJ) for Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it’s smoky, herbal and blackberry ripe.
Tasting notes
Concentrated ripe berry fruit, velvety texture and herbal length
Aroma
Ripe raspberries and blackberries with herbal garrigue
More information
The cru village of Vacqueyras lies close to Châteauneuf du Pape and produces sensational wines at a more affordable price. This is the superb Le Village from Domaine Montirius, a highly acclaimed, fifth generation estate run by Christine and Eric Saurel. They make a tiny bit of white and rosé, but most is silky, seductive and red. The 2017 is crafted from low yield Grenache, with a little Syrah, all from 25 year old vines. They follow biodynamic principles (even more rigorous than organic) to ensure absolute purity of fruit and expression of the terroir. The hand picked grapes are carefully fermented and aged for a year, with no oak. With its ripe, smoky, herbal fruit, this wine is spot on with grilled lamb or roasted aubergine bake.
