More information
The cru village of Vacqueyras lies close to Châteauneuf du Pape and produces sensational wines at a more affordable price. Domaine Montirius is a small, highly acclaimed, fifth generation estate there, run by Christine and Eric Saurel. Here they use all native varieties from 30 year old vines and crop at very small yields. They follow biodynamic principles (even more rigorous than organic) to ensure absolute purity of fruit and expression of the terroir. The vineyards teem with flora and fauna and there is no denying the wine tastes remarkable. Le Clos comes from their beautiful, woodland enclosed vineyard, hence its name. A equal split of peppery, black fruit Syrah and raspberry scented Grenache, with no oak, it's a top partner with lamb.
