The Merlin-Cherrier family have been growers in Sancerre for four generations, and winemakers there since 1982. Their 13 hectares of vines in Bué lie on some of the appellation’s finest soils, divided between two types, known as terres blanches and les caillottes. The former produces a distinct fruitiness in wines; the latter brings out minerally elegance and finesse. They blend 30 different parcels together to make wines with impressive poise and balance. Respect for the environment is their mantra – one particular vineyard was rested for 10 years by planting it with grasses and now it produces the family’s finest grapes. 2018 was a superb vintage in Sancerre, so enjoy this top notch cuvée from a great property – at its best with seafood.
