Philippe Jouan took over from his father in 2004 and continues the family tradition of exquisite, handcrafted Burgundy with no expense spared. Despite this, the wines remain – for Morey – modestly priced. Bright fruit with roasted meat complexity.

Beyond the Label
Silky, supple berry fruit, spice hints, grilled meats. Complex, long
Ripe, fresh cassis and plum; earthier meaty, roasted coffee notes
This fine, fourth generation estate was founded by Philippe Jouan’s great grandfather. He was a barrel maker with a few vines alongside. Even today, they own only 3 hectares of vines and manage another 1.5 hectares, but all in beautifully positioned plots. As a consequence, their wines are hugely difficult to get hold of and reservations have to be made long in advance. They have been suppliers to Drouhin for 50 years too, a fact they are proud of. Careful tending in the vineyards, natural treatments and gentle handling in the cellar result in this fine village Morey, with its seductive silky texture, wafts of complex aromas and a divine palate of cassis and plum, cinnamon, mocha, roasted meat and coffee bean aromas. Decant early or cellar.
"Cassis, red plums, cinnamon, grilled meat and espresso roast. An exceptional bottle of Morey"
William Kelley Wine Advocate for 2015
