Mercurey AOC

Raspberries with deeper notes of chocolaty plum abound in this luscious Mercurey from an 11-hectare monopole (a single vineyard with one owner). Part whole bunch fermentation has brought out an ample, fleshy fruitiness with a gentle touch of oak.

Pierre Faiveley founded his domaine in 1825 and today it's run by the 7th generation, siblings Erwan and Eve. The family have always placed a lot of importance on the quality of their grapes, so have accumulated substantial vineyards holdings. Today, with over 120 hectares, they have one of the largest domaines in Burgundy. The Framboisière vineyard produces wines with lovely expressive fruit and is one of their most highly reputed. The grapes are pressed and vinified on site in Mercurey. Then the wine is brought to the main cool vaulted cellars in Nuits Saint Georges to be matured in lightly toasted, 20% new, oak barrels for a 14 months. Wine Advocate wrote that this wine ranks "among the region's finest". A treat with beef wellington.
