With frost and hail the size of ping pong balls, 2016 had its challenges. The harvest in Chablis was a lot smaller than usual but that proved great news for quality and intensity of flavour. The Dampt brothers own top vineyards and produce some of the region’s finest wines. That’s why, every year, we hot foot it to their cellar door, eager to try out the new wines. It is the appellation’s Kimmeridgian clay soils, along with a risky climate that often only just ripens the grapes, plus the domaine’s excellent sites, and exacting standards in the vineyard, that all conspire to produce such special wines. The fresh, crisp 2016 has hay, citrus and bright fruit aromas that’ll develop honeyed intensity as it matures. Enjoy with seafood dishes.
