The Dampt brothers – Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé – own top vineyards in Chablis and produce some of the region’s finest wines. And they come at sensible prices too. That’s why, every year, we hot-foot it to their cellar door eager to try out the new wines. The appellation’s Kimmeridgian clay soils, a risky climate that often only just ripens the grapes (though that might change with global warming!), plus the domaine’s excellent sites, and exacting standards in the vineyard, all conspire to produce such special wines. 2018 has been called the best vintage in two decades and produced a wine with hay, citrus and bright fruit aromas that’ll develop honeyed intensity as it matures. Enjoy in handy half bottle size, with seafood dishes or chicken.
