Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Cuvée Marie Ragonneau 2017

Marsannay AOC

This is a most appealing red Burgundy with seductively silky red fruit. It’s from the tiny enclave of Marsannay, in the Côte de Nuits, not far from Gevrey Chambertin. The family have been there pre Revolution and this is their superb flagship cuvée.

Cyril Audoin is the fifth generation of his family in Marsannay. He grew up on the estate just as the village was gaining greater prominence, culminating in AOC status in 1987. Marsannay makes great rosé but its real point of interest is its very fine Pinot Noir reds. William Kelley of Wine Advocate described Cyril's wines as a “Marsannay reference point”, that "can stand just as proudly among the grander Villages and Premiers Crus of the Côte de Nuits". The estate has nearly 16 hectares of old vines spread across a variety of terroirs, the very finest grapes of which go into this top cuvée, named after his formidable grandma! Barrel aged, then bottled unfined and unfiltered for maximum character, this silky red is spot on with coq au vin.

"Tasting with Audoin offers compelling testimony to the quality of this underestimated appellation" William Kelley
