Familia Martínez Bujanda Gran Reserva 2011

Rioja DOCa

From a cellar that made the list of the world’s top 50 wineries nine years on the trot (Wine Spectator), this beautifully mellow Gran Reserva has been long matured in oak barrels. Hence it's silky smooth with complex red fruits and toasty spice.

Familia Martínez Bujanda is one of the finest bodegas in all Rioja, and this mellow, complex Gran Reserva is one of their top reds. In 1984, a century after they were founded, they completed a state-of-the-art winery, and since then the family have been winning worldwide acclaim for their wines. We were one of their first customers in 1984 and have kept close through the years. Alongside a high-tech vinification cellar, the winery includes two barrel halls that hold 11,000 casks, both of which are temperature and humidity-controlled, so the wine matures in optimum conditions. This fine red, made purely from estate-grown grapes (rare in Rioja), has aged really well. Perfect now – enjoy with game or roast lamb to show it off at its best.

"My favourite Spanish red. Smooth and fragrant, but not [overly] oaky" 5-Star Online Review
