Argentina may have helped put Malbec on the world stage, but “savvy wine lovers know Cahors to be the historic and spiritual home of Malbec, the grape’s epicenter of quality” (Wine Spectator). Malbec has been in Cahors since Roman times. And the success of Malbec in Argentina piqued a new generation of local winemakers in Cahors into action. Cuvée 757 is from a cellar that’s won many awards for its Malbec, and Elodie Marsoni is winemaker. She had the idea of blending Malbec with a parcel of gorgeous, ripe Alicante from the Cévennes. The former provides firm, textured, ripe black fruit, while the latter is juicier and more fruit forward. A blend of regions, Cuvée 757 must be labelled Vin de France, and is even greater value for that.
