With over 300 years of tradition, Croft is one of the best-known port houses. The company was founded in 1588, nowhere near the Douro, but in York, by the Thompson family. The Portuguese connection began in 1707 when they joined forces with Irish brothers Thomas Phayre and Nathaniel Bradley, who were already trading from Oporto. In 1736 Yorkshireman John Croft joined and gave the firm its name. Today Croft’s jewel in the crown is Quinta do Roêda, one of the Douro's finest estates. 2018 was an excellent vintage for this property, providing the richness and structure to make this fine port. Wine guru Jancis Robinson scored it an impressive 17-points saying it’s “You could almost drink it tonight! Really rather glorious.” Great to cellar.
