Just three miles downstream from Hereford Cathedral, on the banks of the River Wye, lies Colcombe House. It’s a former Victorian fishing lodge, once with access to a plentiful supply of sizeable salmon. This attracted the country’s finest fisherman. The current owner Kier Rogers’ grandfather purchased the property in 1963. He was a cattle farmer, who through his fishing friends heard the house was up for sale. In 2015 Kier decided to make the most of the beautiful orchards that surround the property and so cider production began. All the ciders are pure apple juice, bottle fermented with nothing artificial added, while the trees are fed with organic seaweed. Made from Katy and Dabinett apples, this cider has a pleasing bittersweet balance.
