Clos Villemaurine 2010

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru AOC

Wines from the great 2010 vintage – gorgeously ripe and well structured – are becoming scarce. For good reason! This is an exciting 91-pt find from a 4th generation estate in the heart of St Emilion. Silky Merlot/ Cabernet Franc, long aged in barrel.

From "vintage of a lifetime" 2010, this is fine St Emilion Grand Cru. It's from an estate owned today by Jean-François Carille, but only the buildings. The family had to sell the vineyards in 2014. There was quite a clamour as they are situated on classic limestone clay soils and surrounded by famous names like Pavie, Clos Fourtet and Ausone. £250 a bottle Château Angélus offered the winning bid and is where you'll find the grapes from 2015 onwards! Dug deep into the limestone soils, the Carille cellars are perfect for ageing the clarets at a constant temperature. That’s why this wine is in such great shape. Creamy, plum Merlot blends with the Cabernet Franc, all aged for two years in barrel for complexity. Great vintage, delicious claret.

"Accents of jammy, black fruit. A generous, powerful, fruity wine displaying good honesty" Gilbert et Gaillard
