A charming red from France’s classic Beaujolais. It’s a much under appreciated region and offers delightful wines at great value prices. Using old vine grapes from an excellent family domaine, this is a compelling, silky, strawberry scented red.

The supple, fruity wines of Beaujolais are well worth seeking out, especially from 2018, a year that gifted winemaker Michael Lachaud a perfectly ripe harvest. This wine is from a family estate owned by Jean-Paul Devay, whose grandfather planted the vineyards in the 1890s. Based in Le Breuil, the domaine takes its name from the golden colour of local stone, from which many of the villages are built. With rolling hills and vineyards as high as 500 metres, Beaujolais is one of the prettiest of France’s wine regions. The Gamay grape achieves juicy ripeness while maintaining its natural, lively acidity. Packed with bright berry fruit, this tasty wine is great served cool on its own, or partnered with charcuterie or rustic pâté and crusty bread.

"I have just ordered another dozen. Excellent, light, fruity Beaujolais for everyday drinking." Online Review
