Château des Bois 2014

Macon-Villages AOC

This is a superb, minerally, yet creamy white Burgundy that tastes way fancier than its relatively humble Mâcon Villages label. From vines up to 50 years old and a small family domaine, this is a luscious, round Chardonnay with precision freshness.

Macôn in southern Burgundy is renowned for offering good value and, increasingly, for remarkable quality as well, with some prestigious names buying up properties. This small family estate lies in Milly Lamartine, a tiny area with particularly fine terroir, so good that Meursault producer Comtes Lafon have purchased a property there. Xavier Greuzard and his wife Lucie bought Château des Bois in 2012, attracted by its vines in Milly Lamartine, grown on clay and limestone soils. You can taste why in this top vintage Mâcon. Using grapes from vines 15 to 50 years old, the wine receives no oak, but gains its richness and creaminess from lees ageing and batonnage and the superb ripeness of the fruit. Gently chill and serve with fine cuisine.

"Burgundy lovers – this is definitely one to grab. Superb vintage, brilliant terroir, great wine" Hilario Ribeiro
