Francs Côtes de Bordeaux AOC

A serious, oak fermented, barrel aged white from Bordeaux's Côtes de Francs. Nearly all production from this Right Bank region is red, making this white even more exciting. Toasted spice marries with the baked apple and peach notes of this fine wine.

Across the Gironde from famous Margaux, the Côtes de Francs is a rising star area for fine reds. How exciting then to find this terrific, oaked white. It's from a 100 year old property that was purchased in the early 1900s by Amand Puyanché. It was his dream to own vineyards there. He died in WW1 and his daughter, taken in by a prosperous wine family, had to sell the land. It was her son, André, who began to buy it back and his daughter, Bernadette, who completed the task. She created an estate and named it after her great grandfather. Château Puyanché has 38 hectares of vines, nearly all red with only 3 hectares of white grapes. Oak fermentation and lees stirring ensure superb complexity and depth. Savour cool with sauced white meats.

"Baked-apple and wood aromas. Balancing the toastiness, the ripe fruits are complex, peach and apple" Roger Voss
