Château Péricou 2010

Bordeaux AOC

Regarded as one of the finest Bordeaux vintages ever, 2010 is now hard to come by. Especially from smaller, well priced châteaux. This is a ripe, velvety, Merlot rich claret. Deep plum and evolved creamy cassis notes – it’s drinking beautifully now.

Claret lovers couldn’t believe their luck when both 2009 and 2010 turned out to be true ‘vintage of a lifetime’ harvests. 2010 is a very classic year and its wines have the structure to mature gracefully. Château Pericou is an attractive estate on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, just on the fringes of the Côtes de Blaye. Owned by Jean-Yves Courpon, Pericou boasts gravel, clay and limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and promote concentration in the grapes. This wine is largely Merlot, along with portions of both Cabernets, all from vineyards now 30 years old. A traditional vinification promotes lovely depth of fruit and supportive tannins. Gently rounded with appealing complexity, this Bordeaux will make a fine partner to white meats.
