Chat with Vinny
A fabulous 94-point Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé, now showing very well. 2014 was a very good vintage, but totally overshadowed by the subsequent 2015. All the better for lovers of mature claret, as this fine vintage comes at an excellent price.
Tasting notes
Silky tannins support the dark cassis and plum fruit, with oak spice
Aroma
Deep cherry and plum, floral and spice, with some mature tobacco notes
Allergy information
Contains sulphites
More information
This Cru Classé estate lies in finest part of the Graves, the Pessac-Léognan. Part of the Laurent Perrier empire until 1997, it was sold to a Belgian family, Michele and Alfred-Alesandre Bonnie, who are still owners today. Their son and daughter-in-law, Jean-Jacques and Severine, now run the property, dedicated to sustainable methods in the vineyard. Quality has risen steadily, with the introduction of a second wine and stricter selection of grapes. Antoni Galloni called this 2014 in Vinous "a gorgeous wine, flamboyant and exotic". Aged for 14 months in finest French oak barrels, half new, this wine is maturing well. Still not yet at its peak, it's best decanted about 30 minutes before serving with roast beef or game, or a casserole.
