Château Les Graves du Champ des Chails 2016

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC

Beautiful claret from an estate with a long history delivering outstanding quality wines. Six Golds in their last two vintages, with another five for this Bordeaux. It's a rich and smooth red, yet still with a distinct, delicious freshness of fruit.

As passionate about wine as his great grandfather, who founded the château in 1904, Sébastien Lafitte took over the family estate in the 1980s. With a desire to continue producing top quality wines, he bought new plots and restructured the entire vineyard, replanting the vines with better clones and modernising the cellars. He's proud to continue the family tradition with this great estate, and it really shows in his wines. This 2016 is a great find. From a firm, fruit filled vintage, it's full of black fruits with subtle, faintly liquorice infused oak tones. There's a rich, full palate with smooth, mellowed tannins. It's no wonder it has five international Gold medals to its name. Decant and savour slowly with a slow braised casserole.
