There are many factors to recommend this ripe silky claret, including its 5-star vintage and the region it's from. It may not be quite as smart an address as Pomerol next door, but it delivers superb quality at a much more approachable price.

For a luscious, velvety, top class claret that's just coming into its drinking window, choose Château Pervenche. 2018 was an outstanding vintage – Jancis Robinson MW wrote, "Bordeaux 2018 will be remembered as an exceptional year, with no shortage of outstanding wines from this extraordinary vintage." The wines already make delicious drinking or can be tucked away for a few months to a few years! Named after the periwinkle flower that carpets the estate, Pervenche has been in the Baudet family for 60 years now. They grow pure Merlot, handpicked, traditionally fermented and barrel aged. This lends flattering complexity without masking the pure plum fruit. An exceptional Bordeaux with roast lamb with roasted mushrooms. Open early and decant.
