Château La Clarière Cuvée Anniversaire 50th 2012

Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

A superb special cuvée of Château La Clarière to celebrate 50 years of Laithwaite’s. From 2012, it has two Golds – a delightful, elegant classic, with expressive, leafy, redcurrant and cassis fruit and a gentle oak wrap. Lovely maturity yet will age.

In 1980 Tony Laithwaite was persuaded by his mentor in wine Monsieur Cassin to buy from him Château La Clarière in Bordeaux’s Castillon. Since then, Tony and his team have worked tirelessly to prove that the Côtes de Castillon are equal in quality to the slopes of Saint Emilion Grands Crus that are next door. Now that Tony is celebrating 50 years of the Laithwaite’s Wine company, he felt it was fitting to bottle a special anniversary cuvée from this original estate. He wanted a wine that would be mature enough to enjoy in 2019, but still in no rush to be drunk. 2012 perfectly fitted the bill. An ideal Merlot year, blended with a little of both Cabernets, with lovely elegant ripeness and a layer of gentle oak from its year in new barrels.
