Château Amour has 26 hectares of vineyards, benefitting from their proximity to both the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic. Here, on its mostly gravel soils, with clay and limestone, it grows equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The maturity of the vines (25 years) helps promote excellent intensity of flavour, captured by the skill of winemaker Franck Duprat. A year's ageing in barrel (one third new) adds an extra dimension of complexity to the plush, ripe fruit of the vintage. Well structured, silky fruit with freshness, length and integrated oak make this a very appealing Bordeaux. Preferably open an hour beforehand and decant, then serve alongside roast rack of lamb, panfried duck breast, rich aubergine bake or strong cheese.
