The 2000 vintage was notable for its success on both the Right and Left Banks. Such was the quality that at the time of release, it was Bordeaux’s most expensive en primeur campaign ever. Saint Emilion was one of the top performing communes, and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has given the vintage an “extraordinary” 96 points. And while the notable offerings of the region’s top performers like Château Angélus – who now own the vineyard where this wine was raised – are still to reach their peak, Château Cardinal Villemaurine is now coming into its own. This impeccably aged 2000 was part of a treasure trove uncovered by our Buyer, Jean-Marc Sauboua, when he was given the cellar’s key by the Carrille family. It’s truly remarkable stuff.
