Michel Chapoutier is the seventh generation of his family to work in the Rhône, and his passionate approach to winemaking has catapulted the estate to stratospheric heights. Such is his dedication to quality that not only does he ensure that his own vineyards are treated organically, he actually pays his neighbours to do the same. He has recently branched out with new ventures in Provence, Roussillon and South Australia, but his Rhône wines still lie at the heart of the business. Vineyard terroir is key and to this end he vinifies each micro batch separately, only later deciding how to blend them. This wine is pure Syrah, fermented in open vats and punched down daily. Ageing 14-15 months in new oak lends structure and richness. A fine red.
