Charles Heidsieck came from a well known Champagne family but chose to set up his own house in 1851. He was among the first to seduce the Americans with Champagne and became the toast of New York society. The US Civil War brought the good times to an abrupt end – Heidsieck was accused of spying and imprisoned. Then unpaid debt bankrupted him. Years later, his New York agent made amends by giving him tenure over one third of the land in a tiny settlement called Denver in Colorado. Selling years later for a vast profit, Heidsieck re-established his Champagne house. This NV rosé comprises largely 2008 vintage with 20% younger cuvées and 5% red wine. Simply magnificent with subtle aromas of homemade strawberry jam, peaches, ginger and cinnamon.

"Pure, elegant, intense and complex palate that is full of finesse and tension. Great aging potential" Stephen Reinhardt
