Saint-Émilion's Puisseguin satellite produces lush, silky, Merlot based clarets, always excellent value too. From the gorgeously ripe 2018 vintage, Moulin de Curat is brimful of luscious, well polished black fruit and cedar spice. Superb now or keep.

Saint-Émilion is renowned for its Merlot based, Grand Cru clarets, the top echelons of which fetch very high prices. It also has four satellite appellations, including Puisseguin, which offer a very similar style but often at much more down to earth prices. Like Saint Emilion proper, Puisseguin boasts limestone subsoils, which ensure the vines are well drained and grape flavour is concentrated. Château Moulin de Curat is an excellent example of Puisseguin quality and no stranger to medals. The 2016 vintage won Gold at Challenge du Vin and the 2018 an IWSC Bronze. We loved the lush, velvety depth of this claret and its dense, ripe fruit. It's from a 5-star, warm vintage, hence its higher than usual alcohol. For drinking now, open early.
