Château Bel-Air Lagrave Moulis-en-Médoc Cru Bourgeois 1995

Moulis-en-Medoc AOC

A rare chance to secure bottles of a claret with 26 years' maturity. And not pay the earth! 1995 was an exceptional vintage and although Bel Air Lagrave is showing its age, it is still drinking beautifully. Mellow fruit and long spice complexity.

Moulis is the smallest of the communes in Bordeaux's prized Haut-Médoc. It may not quite have the caché of say Margaux, Saint-Julien and friends, but produces exceptional wines that are also well priced. The Seguin-Bacquey family has owned this fine estate for the last 150 years. This wine comprises largely Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by supple, velvety Merlot, all barrel-aged for 20 months in 50% new oak barrels. Perhaps it's no wonder that this lovely wine has stood up to the test of time. Stand upright for a few hours, so any sediment drops to the bottom. Then just before serving decant, leaving the solids in the bottle. Enjoy mellow, raspberry and blackberry notes, with a complex spicy oak overlay. Best with plain meat dishes.

"A claret of this age is an exciting treat. Handle gently and think mellow and classic" Jennie Perry
