Wines today from Bordeaux's petits châteaux have fallen out of fashion. As a consequence they offer both outstanding quality and value for money. That's especially true of small family owned estates like Château Prince Larquey. The Rochet family are owners of the 85-hectare property, which is situated between the two rivers, the Garonne and the Dordogne. Morning mists and hot afternoon sunshine provide the perfect conditions for ripening and the wine has a lovely depth and richness. The 2016 is now showing its full potential, with notes of red summer berries and cassis, overlaid by gently spiced oak and silky, textured tannins. Best to stand the bottle upright a few hours, to ensure any sediment drops to the bottom. Enjoy with roast meats.
