Victor and David Manzanos are the great grand children of the founder of Finca Manzanos, a winery with a 120 year history. They recently purchased another historic estate in neighbouring Navarra, now known as Bodegas Manzanos Campanas. As a bonus, the cellar contained some fascinating old wines, including this gorgeous 2004 Reserva. Being even closer to southwest France than Rioja, Navarra grows both Tempanillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, a dash of which has added considerable structure to this wine. Not only a must try for serious Rioja fans, it will delight claret lovers too. Aged in American oak, and with 11 years in bottle, it should be decanted and allowed to breathe for an hour before serving with roast rack of lamb or a beef casserole.
