Valdepeñas means ‘valley of stones’ and it’s this attribute that makes it so good for fine wine. This DOP lies in central Spain and remains, to this day, largely under the radar. That’s despite Valdepeñas being one of Spain’s oldest wine regions (granted appellation status in 1932). This silky, long flavoured Reserva comes from century old Bodegas Rasgón, where Mireia Altimira is winemaker, with our long time friend Pamela Geddes as consultant. The grapes for this fine ten year old come from some of the estate’s oldest vineyards, planted in 1904. All the fruit is slowly fermented, then put into a mix of French, US and Hungarian oak barrels to obtain just the right balance of fruit, toasty vanilla and tannin. Ideal with pork or meaty paella.
