A nice easy red at a great value price was the idea for this wine, but with its Double Gold you can see Rioja’s Martinez Bujanda have far exceeded their brief. No surprise for a bodega that consistently ranks among the world’s Top 50 wineries.

Martínez Bujanda have brought a “new benchmark of quality to Rioja” (The Independent). This top family estate stretches back five generations to when the winery was little more than a red hut (Casa Roja). These days the cellar is state of the art and the passion for excellence that has seen the Bujandas through depression and civil war has not changed. Tony Laithwaite first imported wine from Martínez Bujanda in the 1980s. The friendship runs deep, and just as well because since Casa Roja won its double Gold, everyone wants it. Fortunately we have exclusivity in the UK. It’s a lovely, rich, soft and supple red with pure berry flavours that will add great pleasure to simple family meals like sausages and mash, lamb casserole or beef burgers.
