Château Calon-Ségur was one of the wines of the vintage. The same winemaking team are in charge at its sister Saint-Estèphe property Château Capbern though and there is more than a hint of the Calon magic in the Capbern, which is featured in this case. Alongside it is the classically-styled Haut-Médoc customer favourite Château Lanessan. Hopping over to the Right Bank, Fronsac’s Château Dalem and Blaye’s Château Gigault ‘Cuvée Viva’ are perennial over-achievers, while Château Joanin-Bécot from Castillon and the Thienponts’ Château Puygueraud from Francs pushed their way onto our radar with their standout 2018s.
