If you enjoy quality wine and appreciate value, southern France offers a cornucopia of pleasures, especially if you know your way around. Let us be your guide – we have been wending our way around villages and vineyards there since the late 1960s so we know the finest sites and have hundreds of invaluable connections. One is the affable Yannick Pons at his family estate. The beautiful property is skirted by the Canal du Midi and the Roman road Via Domitia, not far from the famous Oppidum (hilltop town) d’Ensérune, which dates back some 3,000 years. This is prime Chardonnay country, producing lovely, pure, creamy wine in the modern style, with a pleasing bite of freshness too. It’s perfect on its own or with salads, fish dishes or chicken.
