The concept of terroir is the essence of soil, aspect and climate of a particular place, usually a vineyard. Famously elusive, and seldom captured, it’s said to be evident only in the very finest wines. Yet the Belvedere Single Estate Rye series proves terroir can be displayed in the finest Polish vodkas. The Dankowskie Diamond rye for this trophy winning tot was raised on a single farm close to Lake Bartezek in northern Poland. Here winters are long and only give way to short growing seasons. This means the flavours in the rye are delicate and less concentrated, leading to a vodka with fresher, more subtle flavour characteristics. This delightful drop makes for a sublime sipping vodka, or the steely backbone to a citrus flavoured cocktail.
