Bodega Los Toneles is an impressive winery, founded nearly a century ago, which captures all the charm and majesty of Argentinean architecture. It was set up by Italian immigrants, the Armando brothers, who travelled to Argentina to make their fortune. The current owners, the Millán family, introduced state of the art winemaking equipment that helped to produce this very moreish Malbec. Winemaker Cristian Ampuero says the hand-picked fruit of the family’s high altitude vineyards give greater depth of flavour while retaining a pleasingly crisp freshness. Expect mouthfuls of luscious blackcurrant, cassis and plum, and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Soft enough as an aperitif, it’s also ideal with tomato based pasta dishes and tasty with kebabs.
