Château Bellefont-Belcier 2017

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe AOC

Superb Saint Émilion from a Grand Cru Classé property neighbouring some seriously prestigious vineyards. It’s beautifully structured, with a core of black berries, touches of spice, a lovely texture and good tannins. Likely to age very agreeably.

Château Bellefont Belcier is a Grand Cru Classé property that’s situated on Saint Émilion’s southern slopes, close to the prestigious vineyards of Châteaux Pavie, Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf. In this enviable position, Bellefont Belcier produces intense wines, with superb balance, depth and longevity. The 2017 is the first vintage under new ownership and the Merlot led blend was aged for 20 months in French oak. It has won some fine reviews, with critic Matthew Jukes writing: “Every element of a great wine is here with superb, stylish fruit, grainy tannins, balanced oak and vital acidity. It is a very noble creation.” If drinking now, open early and decant, but this will age. Pair with red meat dishes or a rich vegetarian casserole.
