Maison Roche de Bellene Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes 2016

Nuits-Saint-Georges AOC

A real treasure from acclaimed Burgundy winemaker and négociant Nicolas Potel. Made from richly flavoured, 40 to 50 year old vine grapes, this is a powerful Nuits Saint Georges with depth, generous black fruits and a firm structure. It’ll age, too.

The Times wrote: “When Nicolas Potel, son of Gérard, set up shop he was clearly destined for the top. What has surprised Burgundy watchers is how swiftly Potel Junior has hit the spot.” His father was well known as winemaker at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, but Nicolas made his own way, gaining experience as far afield as Australia. He founded Roche de Bellene in 2008 with the intention of becoming Burgundy’s only ‘Haute Couture’ négociant. Raised in Volnay, Nicolas has spread his wings to all of Burgundy. Key is his method of working closely with growers to create wines focused on individual terroirs and precious old vines. He is judicious in his use of new oak, too, careful to match wood to fruit. An impressive Nuits, open early or cellar.
