Albert Bichot is a highly awarded, family owned négociant dating from 1831. With 100 hectares of vines, they are one of the bigger players in Burgundy, producing wines "that can really surprise" (Neal Martin, Vinous). Perhaps it should be expected when Albéric Bichot, former ‘IWC Winemaker of the Year’, is in charge. Fixin wines tend to be sturdy and muscular and are often referred to as little Gevreys. Enjoy here Clos Les Perrières, a fine Premier Cru, established by monks in the 12th century. It lies at 350-380 metres altitude, next door to Chambertin, with calcareous soil, all of which adds up to a very fine wine with notes of cherry, currant, earth and herbal notes, and firm tannins. Open early and decant. Serve with coq au vin or game.
