Chateau La Serre Grand Cru Classe 2017

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe AOC

For a class Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé already drinking well, opt for this beauty. It's received many top scores - 91 from Decanter, 90-92 from Jeb Dunnock. Such lovely purity of fruit, with exotic spices, supple and full of charm. Will age too.

Château La Serre is a small, well positioned estate just outside the town of Saint Emilion, close to Pavie Macquin and Trottevieille. Its construction dates back to the 17th century and today winemaking and vineyard management is all done by the great Moueix family of Pétrus fame. It's name means 'greenhouse' and refers to the lovely sunny exposition of its 7 hectares of vineyards. As you'd expect, these are nearly all planted to Merlot, with a little Cabernet Franc. In 2003, its cellars were modernised, the stainless steel vats removed and new concrete vats installed, the much favoured option. Ageing in 50% new French oak barrels lends a real finesse and richness to the wine. Already very appealing, decant an hour or more before serving.
