Pessac-Léognan is rare in that its reputation is built on both reds and whites, and Domaine de Chevalier produces top wines in both. Olivier Bernard took over the estate in 1983 (he was just 23) and the family invested heavily. Today the pay off is evident and it is a leading estate of Bordeaux. Mostly Cabernet, a quarter Merlot, with just 5% Petit Verdot, aged 35% new French oak, it has been very well received by critics. “A great job in this vintage,” (Wine Enthusiast, 94-96 points), “a pleasure to taste,” (Decanter 94 points) and worthy of 93-95 points from James Suckling: “delicious and round with soft and ripe tannins. Full body and juicy fruit. Shows ripeness and balance. A pretty wine to watch for the future”. No rush to drink!
