The name says it all! A meritorious cuvée, or two in this case, that is just too good to blend into a big vat. So, Gold medal winning Vianney Castan bottles the wine separately. Judge its merit for yourself – gooseberry, lemony and herbaceous. Fresh!

Vianney Castan is a third generation winemaker, who works both with small domaines and also has two prized properties of his own, all in the Languedoc. His grandfather was the first in the family to take up the trade, winning a Gold medal in 1927. Vianney keeps up the family tradition. For this classic Sauvignon he picked out two parcels of grapes – one from warmer, sunnier slopes to deliver full, ripe tropical fruit notes, the other from a cooler, higher site and soils that would deliver that citrus minerality. Méritoire is the deliciously crisp result – a wine of distinction in our book. And also one of great value too. So get that bottle chilled in the fridge and enjoy as a glass on its own, or with grilled white fish or risotto.
