More information
For a ripe, velvety red with juicy fruit and a hint of smoky oak, this Garnacha hits the mark, bang on target. Tempranillo is the usual grape for traditional Rioja, with Garnacha playing second fiddle. But occasionally the vineyard’s grape quality is so good that the Garnacha demands to be vinified separately. The result is a more chocolatey, earthy, velvety style Rioja, with firm tannins to lend backbone and ageing ability. This red is made by brothers David and Victor Manzanos, who learned to make fine Rioja from their father, after whose untimely death they took over the family estate, while still in their early twenties. Using organic Garnacha, aged for eight months in oak, it has subtle spicy notes – great with lamb or veggie kebabs.
